Low vision project

Prior to starting any of the project planning work, an understanding of PRINCE2 methodology should be gained.

Agree the scope of the project - what exactly is to be delivered and by when?

Agree how the project is to be measured and how the information will be gathered and presented.

Ensure that key people from all organisations have been engaged in the project – don’t forget to include patient representation and the Local Optometric Committee. Confirm membership at first Project Board and first Project team meeting, along with confirmation of who should be copied in on any meeting minutes/next steps.

Define roles and responsibilities with Project Board and project teams - this ensures that the Board and project teams know what is expected of them.

Use proven project management tools and techniques to drive project forward, in line with project and stage plans. Mapping of existing services ‘As Is’ and ‘To Be’ modelling with project teams, timed agendas, with agreed next steps from meetings sent out within 1 week of meeting.

List all ‘Hot Issues’ that need to be addressed within the project and action plan accordingly with project teams.

Keep project teams regularly updated with progress of project by monthly highlight reports.

Be prepared to remind team members regularly of any agreed work packages that have been forgotten/deleted in error.

Start small and once tested, ensure there is a good communication plan to spread the word.
